I am the oldest of five kids. My father was in the Air Force and money was tight back then. Our mother knew how to make every penny stretch and she made a lot of our clothing. As a young mother, I continued that tradition with my two kids. I have a creative “relationship” with fabric and loved nothing more than to put the kids into the
wagon and walk up to the local fabric store. I would browse the fabric stores, look at the bolts of fabric and imagine what I could create. I still do this today.
JPlace Creations came to fruition in 2017 when I created my first blank notecard from photos I took. I gave the notecards out to family and friends as gifts. With their encouragement, I chose a selection of photos from over the years, edited them, and created the cards. That was the start of JPlace Creations.
In 2020, I made my first-ever tote bag. A friend and I were going to the Oregon coast for a few days and I wanted a beach-themed bag to take with me to carry stuff. The bag turned out great and I started receiving requests for bags from friends. Now I had a legitimate reason to peruse the fabric stores and I started mixing and matching color combinations.
I signed up for the local Farmer’s Market in 2021 or 2022 to sell the tote bags I had accumulated over the past few months. If it was a slow day, I had cotton yarn and a crochet hook to help me pass the time. In early 2024, I added additional items to the selection. I now have fun making aprons, kitchen scarves, tote bags, and scrub caps.
